Strathcona. Bring out her best.

“We’re good mates.”

— Rebecca, Kate, Tegan & Sarah

To encourage her to live fully. To instil in her a love of learning about the world. To emerge as a confident young adult with optimism and insight. To realise her potential. To “bring out her best”. These are the four words that represent the core value at Strathcona.

About Strathcona

“Bring out her best” is a sentiment that has defined Strathcona since it began teaching girls more than 85 years ago.

As a unique, medium-sized school with three separate campuses located in Melbourne’s inner Eastern suburbs, Strathcona offers a rich education for your daughter. We provide an intimate, family oriented environment in which all facets of your daughter’s being are developed — the intellectual, the spiritual, the creative, the social and the emotional.

Wander through any Strathcona campus and you will experience a distinctive warmth in the atmosphere — a tangible sense of community. This is a place where girls are totally comfortable — where they feel happy and safe. It’s the perfect environment in which your daughter can gain the confidence and self belief she needs to explore her world.

Strathcona students benefit from a rich tapestry of school culture which comprises a varied and stimulating curriculum, a supportive pastoral care program, superb facilities and inspirational teaching staff. It is a culture which is designed to give each girl every possible opportunity to fulfil her potential. It’s there to bring out her best.

Welcome to Strathcona.

2011 Annual Report

The Annual Report is a chance to look backwards over the last year but also to look forward to future prospects for the School. This is particularly cogent as 2011 represents the 88th anniversary of the School since it was first founded in 1924.

The School has three campuses, with girls spending Year 9 at Tay Creggan, a beautiful historic building on the Yarra River in Hawthorn which has been magnificently renovated. This unique campus, established in 1969, was the first to offer a non-residential off-campus experience for students.

Strathcona’s Main Campus (ELC and Years 7 – 12) is located in Canterbury and a purpose built Junior School, in close proximity to the Main Campus, opened in 2005.

Students attending the Main Campus have excellent facilities:

The Campus also has a large gymnasium, heated indoor swimming pool, netball/tennis courts and a sporting field. The renovation and expansion of the Early Learning Centre will be ready for the commencement of the 2009 school year. Strathcona will now cater for 3 and 4 year-old sessional kindergarten groups as well as continuing to provide the already highly regarded Pre-Prep program.

There is an extensive choice with the VCE program offering all prerequisites for tertiary courses. Students are challenged to explore their individual learning styles and thinking strategies with special programs in Year 7, 8 and 9.

There is a comprehensive co-curricular program including music, sport, drama, dance and public speaking. All students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities to assist in the development of life skills.

Pastoral Care plays an important role at Strathcona with personal, social and spiritual development nurtured. There is a sense of family with many cross-age links amongst the students and close ties between home and school.

Outstanding computer facilities and a home-to-school computer link eliminate the need for expensive laptops, ensuring all students are able to utilise interactive technology to communicate effectively.

Strathcona offers school exchanges with Korea, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

Canterbury and Hawthorn campuses are well serviced by train, bus and tram.

The School schedules a number of tours during the year, however, private tours at other times can be arranged by contacting Joanne Wilson, Director of Enrolments and Marketing, on (03) 8779 7500 or by email.
